Are you a Thrift Shopper?

If not you should be. Second stores offer great prices on just about every item you can think of. Most have furniture, kitchen ware, toys, clothes, shoes, sports wear ... you name it they have it.

Here is a list of the places i frequent from cheapest to most expensive.
Yard Sales & Garage Sales
Salvation Army
goodwill
thrift stores
consignment stores

Now you ask what kind of goods do i look for and when and where? Ok here are few secrets that only thrift shoppers know.

yard sales, garage sales, and estate sales best time to arrive first day 30 minutes before it starts. this gives you a chance to preview the merchandise before you start haggling with the owner... and yes haggling works unless its some thing you know is worth more than they are asking. a good example of this a pair a of beautiful porcelain antique lamps i bought from my neighbor... she wanted $4 for a matching pair. do you think i haggled with her, uhh no... i knew i would never find another set at that price ever again even if the shades were from the 1970's i just swapped them for some i already had. most yard sales start on either Thursday or Friday at 6am here in the south its kind of an spoken rule really... now if you can not get some to come down on the price of an item come back about noon when most sales are wrapping up they usually will come down just to keep from having to drag it back into the garage.

Salvation army often start prices at $0.50 or have $5 grab bags (stuff as much as you can in a garabage bag, items of your choice with no time limit)... i love this method... i have found i couldn't tell you the amount of designer purses & clothes at these stores including kate spade pures, duney & bourke hand bags, aeropostale and many more.

good will is ok nice stuff but can be high pay attention to what you buy.

ahh another favorite thrift stores, call all of them our in your area.... we have several here but my favorite is the one the supports the women's christian jobs corps on any given day i can walk in and walk out with 5 pairs of slacks, 1 pair of shoes, 2 shirts... and if im not careful i may end up with groceries when i walk out for free. ( they have food donated to them from local businesses, so much that they can't get rid of it all before it goes bad, so every one that walks in they try to get to take some with them.... its cute...) most days i spend $6.00.

ok consignment stores... they are ok but kind of like the goodwill watch what you buy know the area you be able to find something similar for a lot less at a thrift store.

and one last thought if you do pageants, proms, wedding gowns, or need formal wear... you are crazy to spend hundreds on them goodwill, thrift stores, and salvation army always have an excellent supply for $10 to $25...so what if its to big have it altered $50 bucks you still saved a lot of money.

do your home work before you shop for clothes of household goods i guarantee you will find it cheap used somewhere else...and if you have picky kids either take them with you and tell them its this or nothing, or just don't tell them where it came from... i prefer the take them with you.... they need to know how to get bargains as well so that they know how to buy stuff when they are on their own.
