7 Sites to Change your Wardrobe on the Cheap

Spring is coming (well, maybe I am being a bit optimistic, but it is on the way at least). If you live in the north or midwest then one of the first things you do at the start of Spring and Fall is figure out how to change your wardrobe to the new season. Even if you do not it is a good habit to get into. It is easy to get in a rut when it comes to your wardrobe. Before you know it you have items in your closet that you wouldn’t wish on your mortal enemy, and yet, you may even find yourself wearing them on “laundry day”.

It is also more expensive to never update your wardrobe. It goes back to the buying it when you need it principle. If you bought something when you needed it you probably spent too much. If you notice that your jeans are on their last leg, then replace them when you see a sale. If you wait until there is a half dollar sized whole in the butt then you will either end up spending too much or buying a low quality replacement.

It is easy to update your children’s wardrobes because you must. They grow out of their clothing (remember those days). Just because you still fit in those items from when you were in college does not mean you should wear them! This year update your wardrobe at the same time as your child’s… and do it on the cheap.

Declutter your Closet

Start by decluttering the items that you do have. Have each person in your household go through their closet and make three piles: donate, trash, and keep. Try the items on and be picky!

Once you have your “keep” pile go through it again. Maybe even have your children or significant other give their own opinion. Decide on a number that you cannot go above. The last time I decluttered my closet I found I had 18 pairs of jeans. I forced myself to choose my top 7. Decide on a number and do not allow yourself to go above that! You will feel better about yourself when you are wearing the clothing you really like anyway.

What clothing items do you Need?

Now is the fun part. What do you need? Did you find that you only have 4 good shirts? Did your favorite skirt get tossed because it is now too faded? Did the laundry monster eat half of your socks? Make a list of what each person needs and even include a few wants in case you do find a good deal (especially if those wants will become needs in the future).
